Drowsy weather could not bring down the spirits of those participating in the 17th annual Hoosiers Outrun Cancer (HOC) event. An estimated 4,000 people registered to run in the 5k or walk the 1 mile course. Participants of these races were encouraged to donate or raise money in memory of a loved one who has battled cancer.
Consisting of 69 members, the Office of Enrollment Management was the largest IU team at the race this year. Together they raised a total of $1,285, which is the highest donation record for the team so far. This year’s OEM HOC team coordinator, Melissa Myers, is looking forward to participating in the festivities next year. “I think it would be great to continue to grow our team donation amount for such a good cause,” she said.
This year, HOC fundraised over $252, 000. These funds benefit the IU Health Olcott Center in order to ensure that those who are in need of medical assistance can receive it free of charge.
